I have a 1988 325i E30. The engine breaks up really bad after about about 5-10 minutes. I changed the cap, rotor, wires, coil,Coolant Temperature Sensor, fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. I drove it a week ago and it shut down as if the battery was dead. It started up about 30 minutes later. I was wondering whether the CPU was bad. Could someone help me out here?

Problems like these are very difficult to diagnose, let alone over the Internet. If you think that your ECU is failing, then you might want to get a replacement to swap in there and test. You might also want to check to make sure that your engine wire harness is okay, as the wires can break down over time, and create problems that are similar to what you would find with a busted ECU.

I also have an E30 which is suffering from "over fueling" problems. the garage
mechanics have checked everything and tell me that all the "bits and pieces" are working fine according to their diagnostic tool, there are no air leaks but the Mass Air Flow Regulator adjuster has to be set to maximum air flow but the exhaust pipe is still very "sooty" even after a "blast" down the motorway. The engine is running fine and performs well. The one annoying problem I have is that there is a also a lag from pressing the accelerator until the engine picks up.Can you help with above problems? Any help would be most appreciated. Kind regards Chris Green |
