E36 M3/4/5 front sway bar link replacement
I was trying to find a technical article about how to do the sway bar link replacement on a 1998 M3. I ran into two problems:
1) It seems like the search engine here is broken, it searched for parts but not articles 2) The index page for the tech center is incomplete - I found pages on Google (such as the E36 rear sway bar link page) that weren't in the index. My real question - is there a technical article here for doing the front sway bar links on an E36 M3? Thanks, Mark |
I think Wayne is having a few issues or going through some changes on the forum right now......
The job is pretty straight forward though......when you get under the car, jack it up and support it on stands and you will need to use a good floor jack to release tension on strut/hub assembly when you discconnect each link..... Have a good look at the current arrangement, pre spray rusty threads with WD or oil, get the correct spanners and tools.....spot the new drop links against the old ones to make sure they are the same and then identifay the parts that need to come off your car and get replaced. Do one side at a time, so that you car refer to the original one if you get lost, but this is a good DIY task. Good luck Mark |

Will I need an alignment or anything, or is it just replace-and-forget ? |
If its just the sway bar links and you don't disturb any of the ball joints etc, then you will probably be okay......although its a good idea to get it alighned every year!

Any time you modify the car's suspension system, you are probably better off getting it re-aligned.
