Over fueling engine
I have a BMW 320i 1989. The engine runs fine but is using too much fuel. The Mass Air Sensor cannot be adjusted to give normal readings for the CO and hydrocarbon levels. I have replaced the Mass Air Sensor, the Fuel Pressure Regulator and the Coolant Temperature Sensor. I have cleaned the Throttle Body and examined for leaks in the various rubber boots on the air intake without finding any.
What else should I look at? |

A bad O2 sensor can cause a rich condition i.e. using too much fuel. Usually they trigger a CEL however, with the older OB1 cars the lights don't come on as easy as they do with the OB2 cars. FYI, a bad mass airflow sensor and vacume leaks usually are associated with a lean condition. The fuel pressure regulator is usually associated with hard starting excessive cranking.
