Hi Wayne, you assistance a couple of weeks ago was invaluable.
I have a 316i, I see all your photo's are for bigger engines with double overhead cams. I downloaded the workshop manual & between the two I got the cyl head off. I dropped a small cylinder when I took out the head, see pic. I can't find its home! Please tell me where it goes. Thanks very much. The picture is a bit fuzzy, but it looks like an alignment pin that sits in the block and holds the head in place when you bolt the block back on. See figure 21 in the article here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/101-Projects-17-Head-Gasket/Pic21-01.jpg , you can see there are two of them in the block. I think this is what you're referring to?
