Hello there! I own a 1985 Euro M635 with the M88 engine. The ECU is failing again and I'm getting tired of fixing. Since they are pretty hard to find, I am getting more interested in swapping the chip to another ECU. My ECU has the Motronic 1.0 Motorsport chip. When you say the ECU must have the same Motronic version you refer to this right?
So technically an E30 M3 ECU might work if I swap the chip? Any idea of compatible units that I might look around on eBay? I appreciate your help. __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: BMW DME Motronic ECU Swap / Repair |

I don't have any specific input for your particular Euro car, but the BOSCH ECU units are mostly the same, with the exception of the chip, when you have the same version of Motronic (as you asked above). So, if you get the same ECU but use a different chip, then you should be fine. I would guess that the ECU from a same-year 5-Series might work fine.
