Black 92 325i (guest) 04-01-2011 12:03 AM

Hello! I have a 92 325i! I have experienced all of the same symptoms as everyone else! Is there any way possible to check the trans codes without a bmw coder reader? I have only drained and refilled the pan and i only put in about 4 qts and I didn't check it while it was running or operating temp! The fluid looks dark with metal shavings in it and of course goes into limp mode in sport or hard acceleration. The first time I did this it ran fine for about two weeks! My tailshaft seal is leaking onto the exhaust and smokes of course after hard driving! What do you think?

Well, if you didn't follow the proper procedure for checking the level of the fluid, then it's very likely that you either have too much fluid or not enough in there. I would check the fluid level right away using the procedure outlined in the article. As for checking codes, no unfortunately, it's not possible to grab them without the specialized BMW factory tool (or expensive aftermarket tools).
