I have a 96' 328i with 182,000 the other day I hit a pot hole and the car started shifting funny. Now it will stay in one gear the transmission picks which one until I come to a stop then I have nothing. I shut the car off and let it sit for about a minute or two start back up and go. Any idea what that could be.

I've never heard of anyone with this problem. Unfortunately, it sounds like the pothole damaged some type of sensor in the transmission. I'd say you're stuck taking it to a BMW mechanic for evaluation.

Do you have a check engine light on?
If so it might tell you whats wrong. Have you lost any fluid? If the pan was damaged or the cooling lines are leaking you might have a low fluid issue. Usually low fluid will manifest itself first by slow torque pick up from a dead stop. |
