1995 M3 with a starting problem

I have a 1995 M3 and I recently was driving and the car shut off. I was able to get it back running and it chocked out / wanted to die 2 times and eventually leveled out to get it home.

Car was home and started 4 times no problem. Then / now it starts for a few seconds and then dies. I checked for spark (GOOD) , checked the DME for moisture (looks good). As well as your normal fuse checks and whatnot.

Currently, I decided to look into a fuel pump for the reason -- I was a Honda guy til this M3. I usually can hear fuel pumps. I am not hearing mine at all. I pulled the seat and access panel and no noise when Ign. on. I took the fuel filter out and blew through it to see if it was maybe clogged. Read that you don't want to bring these cars too close to empty. When the filter was out I turned the car to the Ign position and got a small splurge of fuel and then drips.

Replaced fuel pump and Woo La! Nothing. Crank, catch, die...

When the car has the Ign on. It tends to trigger the relay bank under the hood, then flashers go on and the needles will bounce at times. I checked voltage and I have 12.4V.

I think it is something with the fuel / immisission? There is a unit under the intake boot with a harness and seems to buzz when Ign is on and then it goes nuts buzzing and clicking when the car decides to flash the 4 ways and relay bank...

Any direction? Getting code 1281 when doing a stomp test on the Check Engine light.

** UPDATE **

Checked power at the Fuel Pump and continuity and all checks out. I located a way to test the Fuel Pump relay. I was unable to acquire continuity on the relay. MIGHT be bad??

Also, I pulled the battery for 15 mins and got the car to start on 1st try. Ran for a good 3-4 mins and then died like it was before.

Could it be the DME? Might try and locate a friends DME and see if that is the problem. Does a DME have to be programmed to the car? Or is it a plug and play? Car is a 1995 OBD 1 M3.

Anyone?!

Try switching the fuel pump relay with one the horn relay to check for problems. Should be identical relays.

Tried that idea of swapping relays. Nothing. Still starts and then chokes out and dies within 10 seconds.

Anyone got a direction?

Put a light probe on the power side on the fuel pump. Rests at groud off, ign on, and goes hot on crank and while car is running. Flickers from hot to ground and then car dies. Flashers go on and you can hear I believe the evap buzzing / clicking.

When the car dies the speedo / tach needles tend to bounce and the cars check engine light flickers. This is when the car is still in the on position after dying and without reseting the Ign. If I shut the Ign off and then just throw it back to on right away without crank. The flashers go on and the needles bounce and the check engine light will flicker -- if I let the car sit for 3-5 mins I can get it to crank again and run for a small peroid of time and then die again...

I am in need of some direction. ANYONE?!?!

Code 1281 means.....

This indicates a fault with the internal memory of the DME computer. This is sometimes caused by low battery voltage. Delete the codes, and disconnect the DME for 15 minutes. Then reconnect, let the car idle for five minutes, and then drive over 30 mph for more than five minutes. Recheck the codes - if it occurs again, the DME is faulty and should be replaced.

Good Luck!
