93 325i Electrical Short Kills Battery sitting over night.

Just started the other day. I assumed the old battery wouldn't hold a charge and put a new one in. Started right up. Cool. I went out the next morning and the battery was dead again. Obviously a short, but I have no idea how or where to strt to find it. Are there any common problems that would cause this that would be a good place to start looking?

Make sure you have the radio code before you do this.

Disconnect the positive battery terminal. Put a test light between the positve post and a ground under the hood. If there is a short somewhere the light should illuminate.

Now start pulling fuses one by one. When the light extinguishes you have isolated the right circuit.

Common drain casues.

Stuck door lock solenoids
Tape deck motors that wont quit running
Glovebox and trunk light switches stuck on

I tried disconnecting the negative lead from the battery and then going across the disconnected lead and the positive battery terminal and figured that the test light should light if there was a short, then I planned on pulling fuses until I located the circuit. The test light stayed dark when I tried it so...

I'll try doing it the way you described...

No disconnet the postive (RED LEAD) put a test light between the positive post and red battery cable. If the light stays on you have a drain somewhere.

What you did made no sense!! You eliminated the ground so the elecrons wont move. The electrons move from positive to negative. if there is no negative pole the electons wont move.
