Doors auto lock all the time on their own!

So the other day I had the driver side interior door panel off. After I put it back on, I noticed that when I shut my drivers side door, it locks on its own.

Since then when driving, whenever I hit a bump, the power locks activate. This is driving me insane. Also, I have to start my car before shutting the door, because if I shut the door first the locks will activate, then my car won't start for a good 5 minutes, the windows won't roll down, and the door won't open. The only way out of the car is to wait a few minutes until the windows start working again, and then reach out of the window and unlock the door from the outside.

Even when the car is just sitting the locks often lock or unlock by themselves, and sometimes, it will run down the battery to where I can't start the car.

I have heard rumors that this could be the sensor mounted on the frame of the car that is pushed in when you lock the door, behind the door catch bar. I'm guessing that it's not contacting the door correctly and that I must have altered the shape of the door slightly when I took the panel off, and now it doesn't fit right and doesn't constantly contact the sensor. the sensor is a bit worn...

Help!

I thought I had it bad, My 99 328i has a mind of it's own too with the door locks. Some days they work fine and other times they are weird. For instance, lets say it's locked up and I go out to unlock it and only the drivers door and the trunk will open using the keyless entry. Other days none will work, only the key will unlock the drivers door, I can hear a click using the keyless entry like it's trying to work. Last week I could get the drivers door open with the key but the other 3 doors were " second locked ". That means that nothing will unlock them, not even if you try and pull up on the door lock knob or use the handle. That day I could only get the door open by rolling the window down and using the key on the outside door lock. Then all of a sudden it started to work fine. That lasted until I got to where I was going and tried to unlock'em. They don't second lock all the time, just when she feels like being a nasty *****. I've learned to live with it. Probably got a short in the wiring somewhere I'll bet.

Good luck all,

leeroyboy

If it runs the battery down, it is keeping the lock solenoids energized, if so this will help you find the source. the lock solenoids are supposed to energise just long enough to lock and drop out. catch it when it is running down the battery, and start wiggling wires, bumping door locks, door pannels, relays, whatever you can think of. if you hear the solenoids let go you are warm.
I would also try changing the relays around. Many of the relays that control other functions are the same and you can swap them around to see if it changes anything.
Good luck with it.

1994 320i No Dash / Interior lights

This is a strange one and I'm sure it has something to do with the door locks. To keep a long story short, I was at a parking gate which I have a magnetic key for, so I have to turn off the car to swipe my key. My lights are on, in the process with the window down I accidentally push down on the door locks and all doors lock (normal) after I start the car back up I no longer have Dash / Interior lights? After playing around a little I notice when I turn my lights on no dash / int lights then I lock my doors (nothing) but when I unlock the doors by pulling up on the lock all the lights come on for 2 sec then go out again? Thought?
