do these bilsteins fit on my E36 M3?

I am having a problem installing bilstein heavy duty shocks on my 97 M3 sedan with 130K miles. The part number for the right front shock is 35-105862. There is not enough room on the shock shaft for the washers, strut mount and new Nylox M14 nut. On the OEM shock that came out of the car, there is 44 mm of small diameter shaft at the top for all the top mount hardware. On the new Bilstein there is only 40 mm. What this means is the self locking nut only has 6 mm of threaded shaft to attach to, while the nut is 14 mm in height. Attached is a picture of the top of the OEM and new Bilstein shock. Its hard to see the difference in length in the picture, but my calipers give the measurements above.
Do I have the wrong shock? Any help would be appreciated.

Hard to see the detail, but that could be an E30 shock?
