1990 325i no fast idle

so when i fire up my car first thing in the morning there is no cold idle what so ever, it starts right up, revs to about 1400rpms then drops to about 600 and stays there. its been doing this ever since i got the car and replaced the cylinder head from a burnt valve.

ive ohm'ed the ICV and it checks fine and the CTS looks newer as well as its connector.

any idea's would be GREATLY appreciated.

There should be a temperature sensor in the head that tells the fuel injection system the temperature of the head. My guess is that it is always reporting that the head is warm.

There are two temperature sensors on the intake side of the head toward the front. Sorry, but I don't know which one talks to the fuel injection system.

i know the single pin is for the gauge cluster and the dual pin with the blue connector is for the fuel injection system. problem being is that someone replaced the connector and sensor some time in the past and i don't know if they hooked the proper wires together or not, or just that the sensor is bad.

If you have a Haynes, or better a Bently manual, the ECM pin assignments are in it.
You can remove the plug and chase it down from there with a digital VOM.

Do you have access to a digital volt/ohm meter? Unplug the ecm, read the resistance between the two pins on the ecm plug that corespond to the sensor you are in question about. unplug the sensor, if the resistance at the pins you are reading do not go to infinity when you take the sensor out of the circuit, you have eliminated one. go to the next one, and the next, note the results each time as you go. you will figure what plug is what by going to the source.
