I have a '91 BMW 318is in mint condition. But I just noticed a gas line drip leak onto the garage floor under the drivers side door from what seems to be the line coming from the tank. It appears as soon as I turn on the ignition and the car runs for about 30 sec. A friend told me that the line may be dry rotted and the only thing that needs replaced. Can this line be replaced by accessing the tank from under the rear seat? Can the top of the tank seals, line, etc.. be accessed and serviced under the seat without dropping the tank and seeing a major repair bill?

Your car is either an early E36 or a late E30 - I believe that the lines coming from the tank are plastic, but they are joined with rubber at the connections. I would bet that the leak is coming from one of those connections. I would take a closer look at where the lines meet the pump in the rear of the car, and also at the junction of the leak to see if you can find that section. It also may be coming from the fuel filter connection, as it may be located in that area (depending upon your car).
