I have a 91 525i. I puchased it with a motor change and harness from a 93 325is. The original computer ends in 405 but running the 413 that goes w/motor. Tried the 405 but No start It sounds like timing sequence cuz it backfires thru the thottle body. What else has to be changed if any or does something need to be reprogramed. spark,compression, fuel,timimg chain, vanos, and sensors and all are good.

I would probably run the older ECU - it sounds like there is some type of sensor or something that is not properly hooked up. Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with the electrics to give you wire-by-wire advice on this.
