Heater Control Valve replacement

It looks like I need to replace my heater control valve. I am getting heat all the time. I have a 1995 325i convertible with the double heat control knobs for the passenger and driver side of the car so there are two solenoids on the valve. I plan on testing for the correct voltages at the valve first and am open to any other advice to make sure that I am replacing the correct part. Also, it looks like this job would be much easier if I remove some of the intake parts. This is my first BMW but I do have the Bentley manual, it may be just me but I am not finding that manual to be as big of a help as I had hoped.
Thanks for any advice.
Don

Been a long time since I did that, but as I recall, you definitely want to pull off everything from the air filter to the throttle body, but you won't need to remove the intake manifold. You will also need to pull off the air inlet plenum from the firewall. As I recall, it fits down in some slides and is secured by just a couple of screws. I remember it because it was stuck so securely that I got up and straddled the engine and tugged so hard that I nearly did a back flip over the radiator when it pulled loose.

When you get it out, dismantle it. you may find that it is not closing because moisture had gotten in and corroded the wires that feed the solenoids (fixable) or you may find that it is not closing because it is gummed up with little chunks of rubber that have flaked off the insides of your heater hoses. In that case, you just need to clean it out and replace the heater hoses.

In fact, it would be prudent to replace all your heater hoses anyway. Don't forget the one under the intake manifold. You can get to it if you remove the oil filter cap, if your arm is not too thick.

Thanks, I am off all next week and it is going to be a stay at home vacation so I may tear into it then. I think I will go ahead and take it apart first and see what I have and what I will need. Seems like I can get parts in a day or so from Pelican. I agree on the hoses and will replace them while I am at it. This is a non essential car for me, just a weekend convertible so I can take my time and
