Profile gasket

Greetings, I am new to the BMW forum and BMW cars. I am getting close to buying a 1991 318ic and need some advice on this Profile Gasket issue. I did my research and understand exactly what it is and how to replace it. My question is what the frequency and probability of it becoming an issue. In my early research about M42 engines it seemed that the common report was that "all of them have been replaced by now" so not to worry. But as I read more posts and info it seems that perhaps this is not a given that the problem has been solved. I am trying to get service info on the car that I am interested in, but I may not know for sure if this has been replaced. The car has 60,000 original miles, beautiful cosmetic condition. Please give me some guidance on this "Profile Gasket" situation. Thanks.
