Windshield washer nozzle adjustment

Has anyone ever had to adjust windshield washer nozzles on an E30? Is there a particular tool or something that could be improvised to make this adjustment easier? I replaced these nozzles years ago without considering the adjustment, and they have never been right.

Use a bent safety pin, stick sharp end in nozzle, adjust away.

This was the first thing that came to mind, but I was afraid of breaking the pin and at the same time ruining the nozzle.
