90 amp conversion to 140 amp alt.
I recently had an alternator failure in my 95 325si, in the middle of nowhere. I wasn't sure what size of alternator I had, turned out to be the 90 amp one, so I purchased a 140 amp to be safe. I used the pulley from my failed alternator to installed it. Well the pulley is to long, measuring from alternator to outside of pulley its roughly 2". I need an 1 3/4 long pulley. They can only give me the diameter of the new one, not the length? Would the pulley for a 140 amp alternator bring everything back in line? When I installed a new serpentine belt it shredded the 1/4" off the belt off.

Thought I would answer my own question, because the alternators are different sizes they each come with a specific pulley to 'line things up'. So if you change from one size (90 amp) to the other (140 amp) , you will have to change the pulley length as measured from alternator to outside of pulley from 2" to 1 3/4" respectfully.
