I have a 91 E31, my passenger seat will not raised up or down but you can hear the motor when switch is used. what might be the problem?

The motors have transmission cables that sometimes work there way loose. Try securing the drive cables first

Is it the entire seat or is it the recline angle is not changing? If it is not reclining, then you'll need a
new plastic gear. Gears are $40.
