1990 325is weird starting problems
Hey everybody-
I have a 1990 325is that has developed a hard start issue. It has been doing this for a few months, but I always have been able to get it to start and run well if I'm persistent. I've done a fairly comprehensive tune up (spark plugs, plug wires, dist. cap, v-belts, crank sensor, fuel pressure regulator), but the problem persists. The car will crank over and try to fire, but will surge up and down in RPM and sputter out. There are times that the car sits for a week or so and usually it'll start right up and run perfectly right off the bat. I'm kind of at a loss now. Any thoughts? Could be an Idle Control Valve. I've changed mine 3 times already, They don't last long. Or the Throttle position sensor. It's located under the throttle body so they tend to get greasy and dirty causing them to fail. You'll have to adjust it when new. I think 1 or 2 mm after the throttle body is opened you should hear a click of the switch.
