Hi I have a BMW E36 318i. I just got the car from the previous owner. It was working fine but few days ago i was driving it with no problem and suddenly, the engine temp went up real fast. Thank God i was 5 minute away from home and it was night . I managed to park the car but the red light in the temp meter was on. I turn off the car fast and open the hood so there is circulation for about 10 minutes. Suddenly 5 minutes after i close the hood, there was a sound and white smoke came out. I send for repair and it was a broken water host and I got it fixed. Now when I drive for the first 5 minutes, the temp is fine but after that it rise very fast and but there is no leak from the radiator to the water host, however there is a squeaky sound from the engine when I drive it. The temp drops a little if i put the gear in neutral. The previous owner said to me the car was not started for 6 months. please advice.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket. I would pressure test the cooling system. If the system does not hold pressure and there are no external leaks, you may have a faulty head gasket.
