1987 325i differential pinion flange seal

Hi fellas. This might be my first post but I'm not sure. Anyway I have a question regarding my 1987 325i differential pinion flange seal. Well it's leaking. Been leaking for the last 10 years so I want to fix it while I have the drive shaft out. Did I mention that my drive shaft or drive line is bad? Bad universal, bad center bearing, bad flex disc. There's a bunch of places online that sell rebuilt drive shafts and I was gonna buy one and just throw it in. So Pelican had the 30mm special socket you need to remove that flange nut, so I ordered it, along with the 3 seals, the flex disc and transmission mounts. So I get the socket in the mail and lo and behold, the socket doesn't fit the nut. So now I have this 30mm socket paper weight, hehe, that I can't use. So what size is that nut, does anyone have a clue? I hate to keep buying paper weights!!!
So anyway, this flange seal, like any other seal, you just pop it out and tap in a new one? And I just tighten down on the nut till it goes back to it's original position? The nut and flange is already marked with yellow paint, by the way. Or should I remove the differential and work on it on the kitchen table where my wife and children eat!
I've done many things to many cars since I was a teen. Some things worked, some things didn't. So I'm a crackerjack backyard beer drinking would be mechanic, so I have some skills. Obviously I need more skills which is why I'm here seeking advice from you fine gentlemen. Did I mention that's a fine tie you have there.
Thanks for any help you may offer, and have a nice day.
PS. Should I post pictures?

OK so no responses. This must be a tough one then. Well I did find out that the flange nut was 29mm as measured with a dial caliper. 1.240 inches which is around 29mm. Well I got all the parts in from Pelican today. I just need the 29mm socket. I'll order the drive shaft at the end of the month. In the meantime lemme go seal those pesky leaks in the differential.

Dope, I can't believe it. The nut was in fact a 30mm. Just that the dumb old nut lock washer was in the way. I had to remove that first. Pried it out and the 30mm socket fit the nut perfectly. It was just a matter of removing the nut and pulling the flange. And presto chango, there was the seal. A quick pop with a big screwdriver, and out it came. Popped in the new seal, the flange, the nut and the lock washer and that was it.

OK so now I'll order the main drive shaft and I should be back in business. I miss my car
