There may be too much lumbar support in the 2011 X3 for my wife even with the air bladder completely deflated. Do you have a proceedure to remove the air bladder to let the seat back go flatter? Or can some padding be removed and the air bladder left intact?

The air bladder when deflated is very thin, removing it will not help, you could remove the seat back and try to remove some foam, but then the leather will not fit tight and you could have problems with the seat heater.
