Hi, I have a 2008 bmw320i. The stop when safe and service immediately check light came on, and the car refuses to accelerate above 2500rpm. What could be the problem?

I would start by checking the DME for fault codes. If the system is not working properly, a fault code will be set. This will be your best bet when diagnosing. There can be many faults that set this message. I would guess it could be a misfire or transmission issue.
