Hi guys
Recently bought all my kit from you guys, replacing the timing belt, other belts, water pump, thermostat. I was especially careful not to move any of the cogs whilst the old belt was off. I did attempt to replace the camshaft seals, but as a novice mechanic decided that this was too tricky. Refitted camshaft sprocket and aligned marks(or so I thought), but when I start the car I had this loud ticking noise coming from top of the valve cover; when I rev the engine a little bit it quietened down. In one other thread, Roman states that he had an identical problem, discovered that his cam gear was 1 tooth off and fixed the error. Assuming that my problem is the same, how do I correct the error so that everything is aligned and I don't instead further misalign the timing by two teeth or more? Do I loosen the timing belt tensioner, take off the belt, take off and realign the sprocket, ensuring that both the marks on the camshaft sprocket & the TDC for cylinder 1 are aligned - I would use a ruler this time, not rely on hand eye judgement. ![]() Your advice will be much appreciated. Thanks, Neil. |

1. When the 1st cylinder is at TDC, make sure that the crankshaft as well as the camshaft marks are aligned according to the marks.
2. Rotate the crankshaft two complete revolutions. The marks on both shafts should remain aligned if you have everything set correctly. 3. Keep in mind that the camshaft will rotate twice for each crankshaft rotation. |

It's the other way 2x on the crankshaft for once around on the camshaft.
