06 bmw m3 did not pass inspection: catalyst not ready/
o2 sensor not ready, the inspection place advised me to drive it for a while. so light will go out. car was off the battery for the winter, could this be the reason?

Yes, i the battery is disconnected the emission monitors with reset. Drive the vehicle for a day then return for an inspection.
