Transmission fault code reset

2007 BMW 328i Coupe with ZF GA6HP19Z trans is in transmission safe mode. Transmission shop reset it 2 weeks ago and ran fine until this weekend when it went back into safe mode. I would like to purchase a fault code reader/reset tool to clear/reset the 4F8D fault code so I can get it back in normal driving mode while I figure out a repair strategy. What is the correct diagnostic/scan tool to do this? Is diagnostics/reset done through the same connection that other OBD II codes are read from that for my car is under the dash near the hood latch?
