crank position sensor missing.
 

I have a 1998 bmw 328i conv project car. Currently not running. Interior and seats out. Consol and dash apart. Vehicle was running prior to tear down. I removed radiator to replace thermostat housing and noticed no crank position sensor was present. Also no wiring harness either. Did some of these come thru without these items? Can they run properly without them? Also where is the cylinder block drain plug? Is it on the alternator side ( drivers side) or is it on the passenger side.?;)
