I have a issue with my 1997 e36 m3, It only happens when you get on the throttle and rev up past 5500rpm. What is happening is when i shift from 1st to 2nd and im at top of 2nd gear shifting to 3rd it seems to fall flat on its face. I lose all power, but i get no CEL or stalling. If i give it gas it gives the sound of the intake chugging air, but again i dont stall. I have to blip the throttle and down shift back to 2nd gear and pull over on the side of the road. Once i stop on the side of the road i can start driving again. It does not do this unless i rev it up high into the rpms, if i keep the shifting at about 4500 to 5000rpm it drives and pulls hard. But anything above it bogs down and loses all power. Any thoughts to the issue?

Could be an issue with the fuel pump. I would perform a fuel delivery system test. Check fuel pressure, volume and quality.
