Shifters

Has anyone installed a B&M short shift kit? If so how much did you pay for it & where you satisfied with the results?

We have the B&M shifter in the race car and lots of guys on the team have them. The consensus is it's a nice unit for money.

They offer them here at Pelican Parts:

Lots of evaluation & DIY install comments on B&M Shifters on this forum:

I haven't searched everywhere, but that seems to be at least $35 or more under what people are retailing them at.

What's the application? I've heard these shifters are a bit too short and taught for street driving... although they kick a$$ on the track. What are you looking to achieve? A bit of a shorter throw on a street ride, or are you racing?

Just the road, though I've thought of taking a few BMW driving School classes this summer...

I think the B&M's shifters are a 50% reduction in throw (for the non M-series). It seems to be a consensus that 33% reduction 'performance' shifter is what most street drivers go after. Another thing to consider is whether you want the model #45126 with the axial damping system, or the raw model #45125 which is solid all the way down.

I wish there was a way to experience the differences in all these models, but it's an educated guess when you look to replace your shifter. I personally am going the safe bet and looking for a used M3 shifter for my 325. It reduces the throw, still has the damper, and should be very civil for the street.

Here's a link with more info on the B&M units: http://www.bmracing.com/products/shft_manual/instruction_pdfs/9500703-04.pdf

50% sounds like a lot - I'll have to check into that.

For all the reviews, comments, DIY write-ups for B&M products you'd ever want, I did a search on this forum:

Should be lots of threads on B&M SSK.
