E46 M3 Clutch Rebuild - Wont release
My M3 is a dedicated GT3 track car. Downshifting in the braking zone the clutch failed to disengage. It felt as though the slave cylinder failed. Replacing the slave cylinder didn't solve the problem. I next replaced the Clutch master cylinder and lines. The clutch pedal didn't feel right. Its not smooth and experiences a resistance part way thru its travel. The "stroke" is not smooth. I next pulled the tranny to find the clutch material had sheared from the backing plate. I assumed the clutch plate failure was the cause of the pedal feel. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate. TO bearing, guide tube, pivot arm and pivot pin. put everything back together and am having the same problem. I've done a bunch of clutches so not a newbie at this. Every part in the clutch system has been replaced. I pressure bled the entire system. Tomorrow I'll remove the slave cylinder and measure the distance from the mounting plate surface of the slave cylinder and clutch fork, compare it to the slave cylinder stroke to insure nothing got jacked up here. I'm hoping to avoid pulling the tranny again. Its a pita. (though I've got it down to 3 hrs) Has anyone experienced this problem?
I missing precious track time! 1) the TO bearing seems like a no-brainer on installation/configuration. Is it possible to install it wrong? 2) what am I missing? Last edited by Das86TurboII; 07-14-2016 at 07:34 PM.. |
