BMW Roundel E36 Question Buying an Alarm

I have a '93 325is that is "prewired" for an alarm. I haven't purchased one yet, but am looking to do so before the year is out. There is an alarm that I am looking to get, but I'm not exactly sure which one it is. I believe it is a BMW alarm, mid 90s 5 series possibly. It sounds more like a distinct "chirp" rather than a typical run of the mill alarm sound. Does anyone know which alarm this could be? I'm interested in it because it has character and standard alarms seem to be more annoying than anything

Does anyone know of this alarm and if it performs well/ if they would recommend it? If so, does anyone know where I could get it at a decent price... or even what any price for it would be. Also any specs or info on the alarm would be nice, for instance if can incorporate immobilizers or audible as well as lighted activation/deactivation. Any info would be great.

I have a Viper alarm on another car, but it seems to be rather "normal" and I figured since this car has character, why not match a great alarm to it. Thanks for all of your help!

Hmmmm....

I'm not exactly sure that it is in fact the factory unit. I distinctly remember a (supposedly) stock 5-series sedan that had this alarm, or at least an alarm that had more of an "animal" chirp or quick metallic sound rather than the traditional honk or beep.

I don't actually know anyone with this alarm now which is the reason I came here - hoping someone would be familiar with the alarm I am talking about. If figured if I posted here and within the 5-series section, someone might know of the alarm or actually have the alarm and be able to tell me specs on it/where to get it etc etc.

Thanks a lot!

I just recently installed the Stellar BMWSTX in my '97 328is. Took and hour, and am very happy with the results. No wire cutting. Everything is "plug it in, turn it on."

For technical specs, go to stellar.com. Fast delivery, too.
... and yes, it has a single chirp to lock (with single parking lights flash)... double chirp when unlocking

Cost is $275.00

Stealer wants $640.00. nuff sed?

Dan

Thumbs up

Wayne,

I installed the Stellar BMWSTX in my '97 328is.

The installation is simple, requires no special tools, and the installation instructions are easy to follow.

IMHO, anyone that wants a good keyless entry/alarm for WAY less than the dealer charges, can't go wrong. Good tech support on the other end, too. (Didn't need, but wanted to test it.)

Dan

Wayne,

$430 bux just for the plug-in unit and the alarm horn..... for my '97. (already prewired, 'course..)

Then he wants 'nother $200 to install it. This quote is from the BMW dealership in Hickory, NC.

I sez to myself, "gotta be another way to skin this cat..."

Dan
