I'm looking to replace my manual shift knob & need some help. I know (from an earlier post on this forum) that it just pulls off, but the detaching/reattaching of the boot is confusing. What is the best procedure for doing this without having to replace the existing boot? Thanks.

What kind of car is it? Unless it's an M3 with lighted knob, it just pops up, a little firm but no screws attatched. If an M3 with lighted it also pops up but watch for the wire harness as not to pull them all the way out.

Is the boot attached to the knob, or does it just appear that way? The boot is not attached to my knob - it simply pulls off (with a lot of force).

The boot appears to be attached to the bottom end of the knob. If it wasn't, how would it stay up close to the knob end?

The upper part of the boot has retainer inside the leather that holds itup, had when you slap the knob down it kind of hugs the edge. Know the exception to this is if the original owner modified it and changed it to one off the M3 in that case the boot and knob are one piece. In that case remove boot from center counsel first peel back over the knob and proceed to pop off the knob firmly straight up.

No way it's an M3 knob. Thanks, I'll give that a try.
