Per references to difficulty in removing the thread-in bolt on later crossmembers. Many of those threaded crossmembers have been compromised/bent due to attempts to loosen the bolt without an adequate means to counter-hold the threaded end.

It has been suggested to remove the internal threads, then use a through bolt, washer and nut as in early engines.
