Its easier to bolt the MC down first & then attach the lines.

You don't need to fool w/ the helper spring. The clutch cable can be released without disturbing it. Get a helper or 2x4 to push the pedal to the floor & release the clevis pin. To reconnect when your done you'll probably need to unhook the cable at the tranny, connect things up front & then move to the back & reconnect/readjust as required.

However, if the cable & helper spring are old, now would be a good time to replace them. Does your clutch feel heavy?
