Yes, buddy realises what he has and with fewer than 600 produced the prices are outrageous.
It is now in an "original" state and to some people that translates to a high value, so buddy is stuck between preserving it and getting it running and maybe even using it to some extent.
He paid a lot of money for the bike but I think if he's careful with what he does he should be able to sell it for 3X what he paid.

Anyway, those are his problems and he will do as he pleases, my only concern is whether he should try to fire it up without having to break it down to replace the various seals.
Even though I've owned a number of Italian bikes over the years I'm in no position to tell him what's best to do.
