Kevin,

You need to get into the routine of systematic testing, rather than asking about which parts to change out.

Test the CDI-unt and coil by taking a known-good spark plug wire and putting in place of the distributor lead, then clip the connector onto a good new or used spark plug. Remove the Black/Violet wire's connector from tab on the side of the distributor. With the ignition switch on, ground the body of the test spark plug to any convenient engine tin or bare block location. Watch the spark plug gap as you repeatedly ground and interrupt the connector on the Black/Violet wire ... simulating operating points inside the distributor.

Did you get a strong blue-white spark at the plug? If so, suspect your points, or a loose connection at the distributor.
