Jack up the car. Support the car with jackstands. Disconnect the transmission selector cable from the transmission. Spray the exposed cable with Kroil/PB Blaster etc. Push the button on the shifter mechanism and move the cable. Continue to lubricate the cable as it moves until it moves freely.
Reattach the cable to the selector cable to the transmission.
