As an alternative to building a '73 RS replica, you could buy one of these:



This is the Rest-of-World '74-75 Carrera 2.7. It shares the same drivetrain and suspension geometry with the '73 RS Touring. The US-version of this car had the 175HP CIS 2.7 litre engine instead of the 210HP, MFI 2.7 litre engine.

Since these RoW Carrera 2.7s are '73 RSs with impact bumpers, Porsche enthusiasts have finally ordained the car as a desirable -- and collectable -- 911 variant. They are now worth more than they were ten years ago, although they're still considereably cheaper than an authentic '73 RS. Why it took enthusiasts -- and journalists -- this long to acknowledge this car will always be a mystery to me.

You should be able to find a good one in Europe for between $30-40K US.
