I beg to differ, I have no knowledge of the "L" calipers and have never even seen one outside of a picture, but "A" and "M" are certainly 3.5" and 3" respectively
Here are the relevent portions of the Ate catalog


dimension "F" was 76.2mm = 3" on "M" and 88.9mm = 3.5" on "A"

Inch measurements were not uncommon on older designs, another example is wheels
