This statement is not quite accurate. Because Porsche was such a small company back then, they were very inconsistent with product continuity.
The truth is that almost any engine model assembled mid year 73 could have a 7R case. That means 2.4 T, 2.4 E, 2.4 S, 2.7 RS but not a 2.8 RSR.

Here's a 73 E # 6232068, 911/52 that we just built for a customer to 2.7 with solex cams.
