I don't think there is any reason you couldn't change to the aluminum chain housings. Having said that, if your old ones are ok why change them. I had to clean up some corrosion on mine but they cleaned up fine and I reused them. What's wrong with grooves on the inside of the right chain housing? Are the grooves so deep that they are in danger of going through?

Only you can decide what you should and shouldn't use. You'll find all sorts of these decision come up during your rebuild. Use your best judgement and advice from others then decide.
