Well as you said I cant see a reason for the lower tins to be there. I will order the 1-2 side anyway. The reason I was interested about the direction of air flow was that on VW"s all (well almost all) the air is diverted to the rear of the car. But I can see that in the case of the 914 the trunk would get very hot if all that air was diverted to the rear.
I am quite knowlageable of the tin directly below the cylinders. I dont know how many times I have seen botched engine jobs where the tin was left off. Oh and one time I even saw that same tin on top of the cylinders it ran a little HOT!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOL!!!!! BUT NOT FOR LONG!!!!! TEHE!!!
