Machinst recommended "new" place to clean

I went to a Rich Jacksic (local porsche engine machinist) to have the engine parts I bought on Pelican measured and checked out.

He made a suggestion that I had not read or seen online so I thought I would share it. If it has been shared in the past, sorry in advance.

Rich recommended I clean the inside of the Intermediate Gear. He said it acts like a centrifuge. The oil in the gear is spun and the crap sticks to the inner wall. No need to contaminate the engine oil after all the cleaning I have done!

To get the inside clean you have to remove the snap ring

You then just have to screw a 6mm bolt in and gently remove the plug by hand.

I took these pictures after soaked the inside with Mineral Spirits and then squirted a decent amount of brake cleaner in until the run off was clear instead of black.
