Thanks for the measurements and images. Sounds like you diagnosed the leak, very good attention to detail.

Clearly you need to address the support ring on the side cover issue. This was a problem from day one. Someone (Performance Products? Ray Litz?) made a machined aluminum repair part for the support ring. It bolted in place of the original. That was in the early ‘70s and I haven’t seen one since. What is the cost and availability of the side cover?
