Comes from owning the same 83 944 for over tweny years. Daily driver. Have to learn or you walk. Now I need to get one each of the other models and drive them for tweny years each.
As to timing belts; I've gone through five. Two of which broke. Don't ask.
I did re-learn something about the 944's today. The radiator in the later 944's sit's about three inches lower than the ones in the early 944's. Four different hoses between the water pump and the radiator. Only one works on the early chassis.
