On my car, you cannot get at the nuts on the flange as the two exit pipes on the stock muffler completely blocks access to them from underneath, and there's no way around them with the valance in the way...
Having just removed an obscenely-loud (and small) muffler and offered up the stock item as a replacement is not the best time to realize that the valance now has to be removed to bolt it up...
No engine tin needed to be disturbed. though.
