The only reason I can think of that you wouldn't want to use the rev limiting rotor (providing it would fit) is that I have heard that if you upgrade the ignition on my era of car the rev limiting device in the rotor can burn out. However it can be soldered up as I mentioned earlier for a quick fix to get the car running again.

Maybe the '86 on cars have a better ignition setup that burnt them out ? I doubt it though.
