There were also some slight nuances between the 87 (first year of the M505) and the later ones. In the 87, there's no thermostatically controlled fan on the rear fender mounted oil cooler. I've seen the fan on either the 88 or the 89, so Porsche must have decided that the oil cooler needed a little more air forced thru the radiator and added the fan at some point. In some cases you might see (or not see) a particular part applied universally throughout the 87 thru 89 models....but you have to remember that some of the development was going on..."on the fly" as the later models came out.
