Mine was running fine and then suddenly started backfiring. I stopped to look things over and it would not restart. So, from the symptom of backfiring, I had no useful warning that would have let me fix the problem before it required a tow.

Here is the strage part. For months I had been smelling a strong fuel vapor smell when I entered the garage after the car had been sitting all night closed up. I had been trying to track down a fuel leak and could not find one. Then this happens and we swap the crank sensor. Now my fuel smell is 90% gone. Very strange.
